Math Festival – Pi Day Event at Him Lam International School

Mathematics is not confined to textbooks but is also present in daily life, helping students develop critical thinking, explore, and create. International Pi Day, celebrated annually on March 14th to honor the mathematical constant π, provides the perfect opportunity to explore mathematics outside the classroom. On this occasion, students in the Integrated and Constructivist Systems program had the chance to experience mathematics in a completely new way: visual, practical, and exciting.
Through diverse challenges, students not only reinforce their knowledge but also develop logical thinking, problem-solving skills, and teamwork.
Mathematical problems are no longer dry and boring but become engaging stories, helping them appreciate the wonder of mathematics.
- Students in grades 1-2 participate in the "Mathematical Explorer" race, honing their observation, reasoning, and quick thinking skills in solving mathematical puzzles to conquer challenging stages.
- Students in grades 3-4-5 test their abilities with the "Young Math Engineer - Designing the Future Bridge" challenge, applying their knowledge of geometry and science to design a sturdy bridge, developing creative thinking and practical skills.
- Students in grades 6-7-8 participate in the "Road to the Summit of Himalaya," where they conquer challenging math problems while developing teamwork skills and effective thinking strategies.
These experiences not only help students gain a deeper understanding of mathematics but also foster a love of learning, helping them become more proactive, creative, and confident learners on their journey of knowledge discovery.
Parents, let's look back at some memorable moments from Pi Day and your children's journey in conquering mathematics!
